27-June-09: Jim & Carol left @ 4:30AM on the 19th., Raining, and did arrive at his sisters in Maneta, VA @ 7:30PM on Friday night. A total of 780 miles. They stayed there until Thursday morning, left there and arrived in Ga just outside of Savannah Thursday night. He called John about 8:30PM to let him know all was OK. Stay tuned for more updates.
29-June-09: Jim & Carol are still on Rte. 78 and are in Foley, Alabama as of Sunday evening. In a couple of days they will be headed for Mississippi. Jim says it is in the high 80's and has to get a windbreaker before his arms blister from the heat. they will be heading West
6-July-09: Jimmy called on Monday (6 July 09) from Tucson, AZ, 4:30 his time. It was 7:30 here. He had his Oil changed & it cost him approximately $78-80.00. A little high -- He is headed for Yuma, then Casa Grande, AZ, then into California. Mileage at this point was about 4800. It will be Rt. 8 to San Diego , California.
8-July-09: He called again on Wednesday - 8 July 09 - at 6:30 PM our time. He stated that it was 106 degrees all day - Carol spent 6 hours in the pool as it was too hot for her & she loves the hot sun. It is expected to reach 114-116 later in the week. He was still in Yuma, AZ -- He, at this point, had 2 new tires put on the bike. He will touch Mexico tomorrow - He has been given a Rt. to by-pass San Diego up thru the mountains along the coast on the ocean side. Rt. 5 to Rt. 1 to New Mexico. He was told to have Rain Gear ready for when he hits Oregon & Washington State ( Heavy precipitation).
12-July-09: He called John yesterday afternoon and stated that he went thru St. George, UT @ 109 degrees. He is now in Oceanside, CA. He will be there tonight & tomorrow visiting Parks, etc. Monday, he will go theu Death Valley. The hottest place in the United States.He will then go back into Ca. for a short time, then pick up the Pacific Coast Highway on his way to Oregon and then into Washington State. His total mileage to date is 6,000. He said that at 60-65 MPH he is getting 40-41 MPG and at 70-75, which he is doing, he is getting around 38 MPG. He, at this time is South of California.
13-July-09: He called John yesterday @ 5:30 PM, his time. It was 8:30 PM here.. He left St. George, UT via Rt. 15 South - N to Las Vegas...Took 95N to 373S to 190W in Death Valley which was 120 degrees. He then took the above routes in reverse to Beaty, NV where he called from. Tuesday he is going to Yosemite Pass & Sequoia National Park. They passed Cedar Breaks @ 74 Degrees. Carol put on her jacket & gloves.
17-July-09: Jim & Carol were on Rte 101 in Santa Rosa, CA, where it was 90 degree. They have gone 8,000 miles so far. They went from extreme heat of 105 degrees then hit the coast at 65 degrees. He has to get 2 new tires for the trailer and will then be heading North on Rte 1 along the coast.
19-July-09: Jim & Carol were on Rte 1 in Fort Bragg, CA. To date they have been on Rte 15N to St George, UT, Rte 9 to Zion Park, Rte 89 to Rte 12 to Brice Canyon. They then traveled back Rte 89 to Rte 143 to Rte 14 to Cedar Breaksthen to Rte 15 to Rte 95N to Rte 374W to Rte 190E to Furnace Creek - Death Valley. They then traveled 190W to 74E and spent the night in Beatty, NV. They then traveled up 95N to 266W to 168W to 395N to 120W and visited Yosemite Park. They then traveled down 41S thru Fresno, CA. then down 99S to 198E to 245S to 180E thru Kings Canyon. They then followed 180W to 190 to 122W to 41S to 1N and went thru Seaside, CA. Took Rte 101N to San Francisco then back thru Santa Rosa. They stopped at Point Arena and into Fort Bragg. Temperatures ranged from 100 degrees to 53 degrees along the coast. They will travel Rte 101 along the coast into Oregon.
25-July-09: Jimmy and Carol went through Crater Lake and were now in Bellingham, Wash. for the night. He has 9500 miles on the bike thus far. Tomorrow, when they leave there he hopes to be in Vancouver. He is, at this time, about 25 miles from British Columbia. He stated that it is about 3750 miles from Vancouver to Boston. He said he would also be going to South Carolina.
29-July-09: As of Sunday - 26 July - 09 Jim & Carol were in Vancouver, British Columbia. They were on Rt. 3 and stopped there for the night. They then took Rt. 21 to Rt. 2, to Idaho, then into Libby, Montana as of last night. They went through the Glacier to Logan's Pass. Temp's. approximately 53 degrees. Went through Browning, Montana. Today, Wednesday, They expect to go into Yellowstone, Wyoming. At this time, the bike has a total of 10,500 miles. He replaced his Trailer tires back at 8500 Miles but those are wearing fast & expects to replace them again before too much longer.
05-Aug-09: Jimmy and Carol were in South Dakota as of 04-Aug-09. The weather is Cool, Cloudy, & Rainy. They left Bozman, Montana - South on Rt. 90, North on Rt. 89, into Great Falls, Montana, Rt. 87 North to Havia, Montana, Rt. 2 East to Galsco, then 2 East to North Dakota and are now in Minat, North Dakota. Tomorrow he will take Rt. 2 across N Dakota, & then into Minnesota & then into Wisconsin. The price of gas is averaging 2.69 gal. He now has a total of 13,000 miles on the bike.
06-Aug-09: They are now in Marquette, Michigan. They left Grand Rapids this morning on Rt 2E into Duluth, Wisconsin. Took Rt 28E to Sault Ste Marie by the Lakes
They will continue on Rt 2E and eventually loop into Ontario, Quebec, and then into Maine for the jaunt homeward bound. Jimmy stated that the temp's have been from Lows around 50 Degrees to the middle 70's daily. He will also be on his 3rd. pair of Trailer Tires shortly.
09-Aug-09: They were still in Sault Ste Marie due to weather conditions there, Fog, Rain, etc. Today, Sunday - 9 Aug 09, they will cross the Bridge & head into Canada. They will hit Toronto, Ontario, and into Ottawa Quebec. Approximately 445 miles. Approximately 1500 miles from Ottawa, Quebec to Montreal. Then they will travel 400 miles into Maine. He hopes to be back between Thursday - Saturday of next week.
10-Aug-09: Jimmy called John at 6:25 PM from Vermont. He took Rt 17 from Canada, then Rt's 417 to 20 to 15 to 10 then 56S to Vermont. Tomorrow he will take Rt 91 to Rt 2 across Vermont , New Hampshire, & into Bangor, Maine. He's not sure if he'll make it all the way to Bangor tomorrow. Where he is now in Vermont, there are heavy Thunder Heads all around him. He may just get some showers before long. He now has 14,500 miles on the bike
12-Aug-09: This may be the last entry into the Trip Update: Jimmy called John at 6:50 tonight. They are still in Bangor, Maine. They went for some sightseeing today & will leave there tomorrow. They will be heading South along the coast of Maine and eventually into big ole state of RI. He may be home late tomorrow afternoon & will be glad to be home.
